Zaka needs kevlar

ZAKA volunteers risk their own lives to save others. Unlike many of the other emergency workers at the scene, most ZAKA volunteers have no protective helmets or shrapnel-proof vests to protect them from additional missiles or rocket attacks that can occur at any time.

Meir Ben Meir, writing on the Israeli news website ynet.co.il: “I must make special note of the ZAKA volunteers, most of whom belong to the ultra-orthodox sector. At every incident, at every missile hit, they are nearly always the first. In every television frame, in every picture in the media, you can always see them. They hurry to help, to treat the wounded, to offer first aid, at personal risk. What Kiddush Hashem there is in their work.”
