Latin pronunciation of “little nut”.

I admit, my response to 463 was tacky. But to suggest that “earliest latin” spelling of “nuculus” somehow translated to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when it first became clear that there was an atom that likely contained a nucleus, leaves little room for stretching the truth to suggest that “nucular” is somehow a logical alternative for the reality of what a word relating to the nucleus might be. The real truth is therefore irrefutable, and that is that nuclear is derived from the modern meaning of nucleus, not something from ancient latin.

Jimmy Carter had a background involving nuclear science, and even he used the clearly misappropriated “nucular”, which has always made my skin crawl.

We are talking about nuclear programs and nuclear bombs, regardless of the spoken ignorance of some persons regarding the same.
