DON’T YOU REALIZE UNIONS ARE BAD?

BAD BAD BAD! BAD UNIONS!

heh.

The teachers are being allowed back in because proper process wasn’t followed. The principals had given them a bad review and they were dismissed.

Now since I’ve been exactly in this situation - both as the firer and the fired - I’ll say what PROBABLY happened is that there was no review or chance for rebuttal.

See, one of the things the union does is insist that I can’t fire someone just because I don’t like them. One of the particularly nasty tricks some managers like to do is make a bad review and use that to fire someone, even though the review is, at best, only part of the truth. Example: I got a bad review as a librarian in a prison the same year I won grants for the library, got recognition for my library being one of the first 10% in the state to meet the new standards, improved the process for GED testing, and got recognition for coming in when a blizzard that shut things down was on the way so that security stations could be covered. None of the positives was mentioned. As for the negatives, there was no documentation. My regular reviews, my timesheets, nothing.

Now, I suspect some of these teachers, even most of them, should be fired. But there’s a process in place to prevent people who have to balance a budget from firing the highest paid employees; to prevent people of one political persuasion from firing those who stand in the opposite house; from removing those who do not worship their every crap in the toilet. And from what I can read that was ignored.

If they’re that bad, it should not be that hard to do it right. If those in charge don’t want to do THAT right, what else aren’t they doing right?
