True, I don’t think religion will be at the top of most voters’ priority list by the time the next election rolls around. But I do believe that the recent over-reach by some parts of the Religious Right will make it hard for candidates such as Jindal and Huckabee to do as well as they would have, otherwise.

My gut reaction is that most voters don’t really hold Romney’s religion against him, but that it’s sort of a placeholder for other uneasiness that they can’t easily narrow down.

He definitely brings a lot to the table, but I’m wondering if there’s such a thing as being too “squeaky clean,” combining with his wealth to make him seem a bit distanced from the riff-raff’s concerns. Sort of the 2012 equivalent of not “wanting to have a beer with him.” What do you think?

He’s analytical and formal and professional. The general public is used to slobs like Barney Frank who bit his nails and cleaned them on national tv while talking to Bill Oreilley. It was disgusting. Romney isn’t a showman, like Obama who used that phoney preacher-ese language to lull his audience into submission. The electorate is so damaged by public schooling and mass media, I think Romney’s image may have to morph a bit.
