Clearly that would be better. I wouldn’t argue that a stupid mistake was not made in that particular case. But once you’ve stepped in it. How do you scrape it off? What is the proper atonement? It seems, in your mind, simple backing away and erasure of the stupidity is not enough. Do you require some kind of public mea culpa? Or is any stain permanent no matter what?

In some cases yes a stain is permanent some things can not be unsaid.
