re: #470 Jimmah

Why would you expect a loss of effectiveness? They seem to be no less adept than straight people in any other walk of life.

First, why do you answer a question with a question? Transient made a claim, and needs to back it up.

Second, if you can’t imagine the scenarios - let me try to gingerly strain your sensibilities. There are all sorts of unintended consequences may result. Every other walk of life does not involce life and death commpand decisions and the development of esprit de corp to be effective. Being a mechanic is not the same as being an infantry grunt. Suppose there are multiple gays in the same unit and they develop romantic feelings for each other. What happens when the shooting starts and one goes down? Wouldn’t you, presumably straight, have a unique reaction if your wife was killed? Or suppose there are openly gay commanders who has to choose betwen sending a unit with several gays into a bad situation. Do we want that commander to be second guessed based on his/her sexual orientation?

It’s a different situation. I’m not convinced that it’s the right thing to do. The Commanders say no, so I side with the commanders.
