I agree with you. It is as if Republicans have been afraid to cling to the conservative principals which gave it such success during Reagan’s era. We benefited from them long after his presidency. What’s wrong with us?(generally speaking, not specifically to this scaled audience)

Do you think our nation has swung so far to the left that there would be no recovery, or do you think principals of practical conservative, especially fiscal conservatism, could bring us back? I miss the Contract with America. Now it’s the “Dictates from on High” shoved through by the ecstatic leftists in Congress!

Unknown! I know that the leftist indoctrination started while I was still in school. They’ve had 30 years to build on that - just look how intolerant our schools and colleges are to conservative ideals. Their mantra is basically, “Free speech for me and None for thee!”

Yet, even as a rabid liberal (I was young) Carter’s admin depressed me and Reagan’s speeches touched me and awoke a love of country I didn’t think I possessed. With all the nonsense talk of hope and change that Obama’s empty suit spewed during the election, Reagan’s speeches truly did give you hope. Needless to say, the very first (and second) president I voted for was Reagan.

I think what we need is another Reagan - and by that I mean the great communicator. Someone able to communicate those ideals and inspire the way he was able to do so effortlessly.
