As it happened, that was never a real risk. Germany never got near Baku in 1942, mostly because of Hitler’s obsessive focus on Stalingrad.

And the Soviets knew they were going to win in Stalingrad? And what if an uprising happened before then in the Caucuses? And what about the nearby Iranian and Iraqi pro German uprisings that happened (and failed) at the same time?
