Mitt’s being weird. Giving money to your church is a good thing. It does not count as taxes.

The LDS church is routinely attacked for being “too rich.”

As the person who sits in a kept-up building and takes my kids to the youth programs, I’m good with spending my tithing money on that, even if we might pay more into the program than we would if it were pay-per-kid rather than a percentage of your income. If I’m paying for some buildings and some youth programs in inner-city wards, I’m okay with that. In fact, I hope I do pay more in than I get out.
