This is strictly an anecdotal observation but I know that the standards at West Point changed some years back. Previously, the commission upon graduation had been Regular Army, which it no longer is if I’m not mistaken.
And I also seem to recall that upon graduation West Pointers were all commissioned in either Combat Arms or Combat Support branches. No longer. And I think that perhaps a different sort is now being attracted to a government paid Ivy league equivalent education, but without the committment that previous generations made to become America’s professional Officer Corps.
My source of commssion was ROTC so I am speaking somewhat out of school here but I served with many West Pointers in the Cold War years and held them generally in high regard. At least in as high regard as I had for myself, nyuk, nyuk. :)
This spate of dishonorable conduct troubles me.
