My tastes are pretty eclectic, so there is a fair amount of metal I listen to, but as I don’t watch videos, I get more of my sense of whether a band is any good from just listening.

I think mine are, as well. I don’t categorically reject music because of it’s genre or era, but of course there are things I don’t prefer. But in the 80s, I was as big of a metalhead as most people. I might still have a drumstick lying around that I caught at an Armored Saint halloween concert.

So much of it is subjective. For example, I absolutely cannot stand Pink Floyd even though they are generally listed as among the greatest rock bands of all time. I don’t get what people like about them.

So when people despise some band that I think is great, I understand and shrug it off as personal taste.
