People were fed up with politicians and politics as usual. Trump campaigned as the anti-politician who promised politics as anything but usual. It allowed him to get away with doing and saying things that would have wrecked the campaign or even the career of any professional politician.

You’ve said this a thousand times. I know that. I’m just saying that I don’t know how millions of people could seriously think Trump was an answer. I needed to lose a lot of weight at one point in my life, it didn’t mean I felt the need to starve myself. You can be fed up with politics as usual and not resort to embracing the worst elements in humanity in a candidate.
