A surprising % of plane crashes never involve death. Just things like failed landing gear, running out of runway, etc. From a quick google, about 53% of controlled ditchings (that is, the pilot still has some degree of control) result in no fatalities. In accidents with fatalities, on average about 25% of the passengers survived. Taken from planecrashinfo.com
