Boehner has reached his “Ransom of Red Chief” moment. If Obama holds out a little longer, Orange John will be begging the President to save him from the teabaggers. He’ll be offering single-payer and an expansion of food stamp benefits.

If Obama can hold out until next Tuesday or Wednesday evening, the GOP will capitulate. At that point, at that 11th hour, it becomes do-or-die for Boehner and the House GOP. Either he lifts the ‘Hastert Rule’ and allows for the clean votes, or it all blows up, and the GOP will get the blame.
