I would hope they’d be tarnished for at least a generation after Trump but if the Dems could survived being linked with the Civil War and the GOP with the Depression, I think they might with Trump. That said, Trump has really really been disasterous and if he does turn out ot have been a Russian asset.

That’s the thing. Trump is taking the GOP down an unpresidented path. Herbert Hoover’s economic ineptitude was catastrophically bad, and Andrew Johnson was damn near removed from office, but AFAIK, neither were investigated as being willing foreign assets.
