I don’t buy that at all. He could have just said that he had something else to do, and quietly walked out. That’s what Clinton or Obama would have done, just said “Excuse me” and left. Kids know that there’s always going to be some interruption of some sort. That wouldn’t have panicked the kids at all.

In any event, the sooner the President leaves in a situation like this, the better. . Once he left, the school would be left alone in quiet.

And nobody knew if the hijacker’s allies were going to stage something anyway, which would be another reason to leave precipitously.
