One thing seems sure:

The polling is off. The margin for Clinton in state after state is much thinner than we thought a day ago.

That may well be because Trump actually is bringing in occasional or unreliable voters who were discounted in polls.

i think part of it is con-artists like Jill Stein taking votes from people who thought it was safe to parade their vacuous “principles”. And then there’s the sad fact that a lot of white men aren’t ready for a female president and hate Clinton with a passion.
