Yes, you are correct.

I guess I used the left as an example due to the fact that a key aspect of fascism as a socio/economic system is the private control of the means of production, but the government telling those companies what to do, what not to do, what to pay, what to earn, etc….and since the current President is doing exactly that, it is fresh in my mind as a prime example of fascism.

This is quite a stretch of logic, to me. It’s one thing for a government to control all private businesses, and it’s quite another for a government to demand conditions from a tiny handful of businesses that are seeking billions in public funds to save their butts. Whether this is a direction we should be going is up for debate, but labeling it “fascist” is tremendous overkill, IMO, and prevents any following arguments from being considered as seriously as they should.
