Even if this were true, let’s look at two famous instances with the so-called “Good Guy with a gun”:

Jeanne Assam

At the second location, Murray killed two more victims and wounded three others before Jeanne Assam, who was present at the church service taking place there, fired at Murray and struck him several times, ending his assault.

Sergeant-at-Arms hailed as hero for stopping Parliament Hill gunman

Vickers is credited with shooting Zehaf-Bibeau during a gunfight inside Parliament Hill. Zehaf-Bibeau entered the Hall of Honour at around 10 a.m. Wednesday after soldier Nathan Frank Cirillo was fatally shot at the National War Memorial just off Parliament property.

Notice what the two cases have in common? As others have mentioned upthread re this issue, shooting had already started, but more important than that, people had already been killed.
