(The difference though is that usually the secular homophobia boils down to disgust rather than to a formed ideology.)

Been there already above. They were not homophobic because they were atheists. They were homophobic because they were Communists.

Looking in my Holy Book of the Gospel of Nothing: Nope, can’t find a reference to “kill the gays.” That would be in Leviticus.
