I’m starting to see reports that the rest of the Republican establishment is trying to figure out how to distance itself from Trump, in the hope they can save down-ticket positions.

But that’s not how people tend to vote. They come out in the presidential year because it’s the “Big Race.” In part, it shows how much Americans misunderstand the structure of government, but it’s going to be hard to convince most of the Republican voters to show up even if they’re not going to vote for Trump.

I’m assuming that 95-99% of Republicans and R-leaning independents (i.e., embarrassed Republicans) will fall in line and vote Trump and straight-ticket (R). It’s what they do.
