One of the big things now is taking a “fakecation”. Instead of going to a real foreign country, you go to a place in or near your own country that’s strongly influenced by another culture or country.

Can’t afford Spain? Go to St. Augustine, Florida.

Can’t afford Paris? Fake it with Quebec City.

Can’t afford Japan? Visit Hawaii.

Can’t afford a trip around the world? Visit Vegas, where you can walk from New York to Paris to Rome to Treasure Island (although I recommend the bus, as that’s a long walk).

Or a staycation. Isn’t that staying in your own state?
