They haven’t told us much about the people who died of the current flu. Were they peasants who didn’t have access to medical care and didn’t understand the importance of hydration when dealing with fevers and upper respiratory viruses? Did they also develop the gastrointestinal problems, which would make their disease even more dangerous?

Did they develop secondary bacterial infections (some reports say most Mexican deaths were due to pneumonia—perhaps bacterial pneumonia? who knows?).

All I heard is most of those who fell ill were ages 25-45. I’m not sure about the deaths. One wonders if those fell ill because that’s the age range where flu shots are optional as opposed to recommended as it is for the very young and very old.
