Odd, isn’t it, that that is what it has come to. The Turkish Army fills a similar role in maintaining Turkish secularism. It’s one of the reasons the Isreali-Turkish relationship has been so strong vis-a-vis other Muslim countries in the ME. That’s why I thought the attack on the flotilla (armed with hand-thrown missiles and iron bars !eleventy!) was so rock dumb.

You could also say that allowing a bunch of armed thugs posing as peace activists to try to run a blockade by an ally was rock dumb.
