Me, too. It’s as charged a concept now as it was 50 years ago. My only surmise is that people defend this because they don’t want to acknowledge their own bigotry and prejudices, let alone that it might exist in others. That’s why this is such a polarizing thread—as was yesterday’s. This is hard for me to write, but I cannot put into words in a cogent form how I feel about all of this. This only shows how far we have to go as a society—and makes me wonder if we will ever overcome our baser natures.

I don’t even have a guess about why this has happened. I’m completely stunned. And it’s still going on.

The people who are getting banned personify the worst fears and stereotypes many on the left have about ‘all republicans’ or ‘everyone on the right”.

I also firmly believe that these people are not truly representative of LGF or even the right— so what the hell is happening here?
It’s like a microcosm of the GOP as a whole; many in the GOP are choosing to pander to the nirthers and the fringe elements, and many people out there are angry in a kind of inchoate way. Those people are making a lot of noise now and trying to mainstream their ideas. It’s frightening.
