re: #487 Obdicut

Do you think people should be allowed to fire weapons loaded with ammunition that can easily penetrate the walls of their house and travel outside their property?

My main problem with castle laws is that it encourages people to act wildly irresponsibly, like the neighbor above.

It is a very tough quandary— made worse by no-knock warrants that bring armed civilians into conflict with armed LEOs.

I use Sig Sauers (226 9mm & 220 .45) with lasers (primarily for intimidation) loaded with glaser safety slugs for home defense. I practice, I am not going to miss and I’m not going to shoot through any walls.

I still keep other kinds of rounds in other loaded weapons M1 Garand & .30 Carbine M1, Fox Model B double barreled 12 gauge shotgun, a Marlin Golden 39-A .22 s/l/lr, Ruger Single Six .22, S&W .38 DA revolver, Walther PPK/S in .380 Auto, and the spare Sig magazines in case of the home invasion scenario that is never going to happen.

Even though that’s not all of them, I do worry about a zombie apocalypse, and sometimes worry that I’d be woefully under armed in that scenario.

I’m quite have more guns than the average person, but I come from a gun culture and either inherited or received the majority of them as gifts.

In this case I don’t see the guy’s truck as his castle, he wasn’t living out of it. He made an optional choice to engage and was demonstrably unprepared for the encounter.
