I would argue, as Marcotte does, the violence in the name of Communism is not violence in the name of atheism. Communism is not inherently atheist, nor atheism inherently communist.

Yes, not all communist violence is atheistic violence, but anti-believer violence in officially atheistic communist states, i.e. violence against believers for being believers, is atheistic violence. No, it doesn’t represent atheists, but it’s still atheistic violence.
