Sounds to me like a bit of pre-emptive excuse-making: if the “blue wave” in November sweeps enough Republicans out of office, Sloppy Steve and his creatures can always claim it was because they weren’t supportive enough of Fearless Leader. Or whatever excuse the can concoct.
