City flag of Mesa, Arizona:

[Embedded content]

It was adopted in 2012.

A good chunk of Mesa is on an actual (not very tall) mesa. But you can’t hardly tell any more due to the city being very nearly built out.

ETA: Just some trivia about saguaro cactus. They only grow naturally between 2,000 and 4,000 feet. You can tell when you’re in a higher elevation in this part of Arizona because saguaro will suddenly appear in the landscape. As you climb further up (say, going up the Mogollon Rim to get to Flagstaff), the saguaro stop appearing.

My favorite “trivia” that I was completely aware of…it is possible in Arizona to be absolutely freaking freezing cold - oh, and it snows.

I was in Flagstaff during the winter. Flew into Phoenix, it was 80 degrees. Drove to Flagstaff to work and it was -12 degrees (that’s 12 below zero - or absolutely freaking freezing cold). I was using a credit card to try to get the 1/4” of ice off my windshield. My customer had to come pick me up because I could not thaw out the car that morning. I was there a week…the weather never changed (but I did learn to go downstairs half an hour early to let the defroster in the car thaw out the windshield).

I had no idea Arizona was capable of that kind of cold.
