What I expect is for the GOP to run two campaigns: National and local.

The national campaign, as I joked about above, is centered around “THEY’RE GONNA IMPEACH HIM!,” hoping to drive up turnout not simply among wingnuts, but among voters who don’t want to go through an impeachment. Look forward to pundits making a lot of noise this summer and fall about how Dem talk about impeachment would “hurt” the country and (totally unironically) a lot of referencing to public opposition to Monicagate, the unspoken argument being that people who hated Bill being impeached should be equally opposed to seeing Donny go through the same.

The local campaigns, by contrast, are gonna be tailored towards the fears of the local crowds. That’s going to mean more promises to ban abortion, more promises to overturn/override regulations keeping some local project from going through, the same bogus promises of “jobs,” and the truly insane ones trying a play at convincing the rubes that running massive deficits is actually “good” for the country…again.
