The only way McConnell can get a deal that the party base would accept is to get some sort of significant offsetting spending cuts. Anything else is likely to be rejected.

Which pretty much is the problem in a nutshell: The party base is out of their fucking gourds and yet also hold enough votes in the House to prevent Boehner from passing anything on a straight vote. There’s no guarantee he could even put enough votes on the table to pass a bill, even if Nancy could guarantee 100% Dem support.
