Indeed. Wagon encirclement isn’t an admirable trait in a union…unions can do a lot of good, but they’d be so much easier to support on a wider scale if they didn’t protect their own with such a blind and willful disregard for the plain facts.

It’s a exercise in power. They want to make sure they continue to hold the power in the schools. If they let someone get fired without a fight, they feel that will show weakness (which is death).
