re: #563 realwest

Hi SE! You didn’t ask me, but I hope the “religious right” has little to do with elections anymore, I really do. And I agree that Romney doesn’t seem the sort to be someone I’d like to sit down and have a beer with (well I would, but I get your point). The real problem with the old meme of the Rich Republicans can’t possibly understand the plight of the poor, oppressed and elderly (broke, elderly, anyway) is just a myth which the MSM keeps trotting out at election time.
Some other poster - who’s name I’ve forgotten, posted a listing (with a link) of the ten richest Congresscritters and #’ 1-5 were Dems, 6,7 and 10 Republicans and #9 a Dem and heading the list - to my surprise was Nancy Pelosi! That’s why I laugh when I see Ted Kennedy (with reportedly four seperate trusts, each valued at over $250 million) speaking about those poor folks. As if he has ANY IDEA at all of what life is like for the poor or the working poor. And the way the economy is going, I suspect that there will be, regrettably MORE poor folks in 2012 than there were in 2008. So yeah, I think Romney might be a turn off to them, unless he can speak specifically about real plans to reduce unemployment (the real key to our economic difficulties) and reinvigorate American enterprise and small businesses.

Fortunately, that’s not such a tall order for Romney.
