That is interesting indeed. But how does it square with Jefferson’s own slave holding?
I think he was worried about the future more than the present. He didn’t want slavery to be a foundational right of the new republic… he saw it as a shameful, but temporary necessity. He freed his slaves upon his death, if memory serves.
A bit late, to be sure… even founding fathers can have feet of clay.
