The rise and fall of DOMA probably expedited matters, but marriage inequality at the state level would have remind vulnerable to a 14th amendment challenge as soon as the question of “why not marriage equality” started being seriously asked in court.

I agree, but my main point is that they’re whining about tyranny & states’ rights, which they didn’t give a damn about when it suited their agenda. Now it’s come back to bite them in the ass.
