I really wonder sometimes whether these asshats are aware that Tolkien’s books are, in fact, fiction and not historical accounts along the lines of Thucydides’ “History of the Peloponnesian War”. Also, do they know that Peter Jackson’s cinematic adaptation of the Rings Trilogy is not a three-part documentary?

It’s goddamn fantasy. And that gives pretty broad latitude in casting choices.

It’s been a widely-accepted fan theory for ages that “James Bond” is just a name given to whoever is 007 as a way of dealing with the casting of new actors every few films, yet the last two times the actor announced their retirement, the fanbase almost immediately dissolved into warfare over speculation of a non-white actor being cast for the role.
