It was an awful idea.

Now, she’s irrelevant.

I don’t know. Say all you want about the veracity of the “death panel” comment, but it got attention and it got results. Out of office she can better play the game of gadfly. And continued attacks on her, unlike those on folks like Newt, end up making the Democrats look worse.

The question is whether she can transform herself successfully into a spokeswoman for a large enough subset of the right to force the Dems to respond, or if she’ll drift off into Buchanan loony-land. I doubt the latter; I think she is actually pretty smart.
