I always figure 1950, because the Boomers amongst them seem to have this idealized view of their childhoods. That things were so “great” back then, when folks (read: blacks) “knew their place,” when women weren’t trying to be “equal” because they were “happy” being wives and mothers, that America was an economic powerhouse where nobody was unemployed, where “multiculturalism” and other hippie ideals either didn’t exist or were reviled, and so forth.

Basically, they got brainwashed by Leave it to Beaver to believe that America’s best days are behind it, unless we drag ourselves back to those times.

seriously, i’ve had wingnuts tell me that the idea that there was promiscuity, drug abuse, serious poverty, sweatshops, child labor, and horribly exploited industrial workers before “fdr came in and introduced socialism”, are myths propogated by revisionisr liberal historians
