Well…intoxication in general (wrt Christianity, at least) isn’t cool.

“Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” (KJV, 1 Corinthians 6:10) I’ve always taken ‘drunkard’ as a commentary on intoxication in general, rather than “drugs are cool but don’t drink too much”…

So what category does speaking in tongues and similar come under?

We are nit picking and I take your point, but getting high is not really comparable to alcohol intoxication and I suspect it was known in early days or it (along with things like mushrooms) would have been specifically prohibited.
