Churchill and Patton both thought the best plan for the immediate post-war situation was to rearm the Wehrmacht, turn them East, and use them as the front ranks in a war with the Soviets.
And most of the Wehrmacht would have been, “As long as I can keep my PzKw V Ausf F, we’re cool.”
The Luftwaffe would have felt the same way about their FW 190s and Me262s.
