re: #542 DEZes

A gallon of paint sure hides alot a bondo.

Drat. You’ve plumbed the secret of my success as a model builder.

Seriously, my chosen ‘model filler putty’ is Bondo, or any similar one-part, auto body spot putty, 3M or PPG. It’s basically the same thing they sell in hobby shops as ‘filler putty’, like Squadron Green Stuff or Dr. Microtools Red. The differences being;

1. The auto spot putty adheres better, dries faster, sands finer;

2. It doesn’t crack, crumble, and fall out with age (like Squadron Green Stuff);

3. You can paint over it with anything and it won’t melt (unlike Dr. Microtools, which really doesn’t like acrylic lacquers); and

4. A one- pound tube of the spot putty, which lasts me about two years, costs about seven bucks, versus four dollars for a 3.5 ounce tube of Squadron or six for a two-ounce tube of Dr. Microtools.

/You’d be amazed what useful model-building tools you can find in your local pharmacy’s cosmetics aisle, too.

cheers
