re: #557 Sigma_x

There are times when the posts come on so fast an so furiously that I literally don’t have time to read a particularly long one before it disappears off the thread. Then I have to go back to the home page and sort through them, find and finish reading the one I was reading, and by the time I come back, it’s a entirely new round “Klingon Divorce Court” (as someone funnier than me called it) going down.

It’s no wonder I’m missing a lot of responses.

I don’t follow each and every single post. I double anyone does. As you say, it goes by too fast. I routinely respond to comments that are 100+ comments old. By that time, the conversation has mutated so much that I’m more or less wallowing in temporal irrelevance. But, so what?

You see some, you miss some. You see someone replying to an interesting comment you missed, then you scroll back up and check it out. That lends itself to the frequently chaotic nature of the post comments here. In my view, that’s both a strength and a weakness of LFG. Most topics don’t get discussed in any depth compared to more “traditional” thread-based forums (fora?). At the same time, it [sometimes] keeps things from getting stale, and perhaps slightly fewer dead horses suffer perpetual floggings.
