So your church retained the ME, and the Methodists dropped the E later. Always wondered.
Yeah. AME, CME (broke off from the MECS), AME Zion all kept the ME.
That moniker wasn’t truly abandoned until the 60s when a lot of these disparate white Methodist groups who had split off of each other over various things like slavery, Fundamentalism, Scopes Trial/evolution/science, all came back together, postwar.
That’s what gave us the United Methodist Church (UMC).
But if you go to certain parts of the midwest and south, for instance, you’ll see a lot of UMC churches with ME cornerstones. None of this speaks to American Methodism and Indian tribes. Messed up history, for which they have formally apologized. www2.wcc-coe.org
Black Methodists look at things like that and just say…and you wonder why we broke away from these people in the 1700s..
