Second rate? What Eric Heiden did in 1980 was more Phelps than Phelps. Only thing most people remember from those games is the miracle on ice. But the true standout performance, maybe of any Olympics—summer or winter—was Heiden. Five events, 5 golds…the closest equivalent would be a runner winning gold in every distance, from sprint to marathon.
