You raise a valid point towards me, however- having been a 17 year old girl, I know how well “get a grip” works, and it’s not effective from what I’ve experienced. It could very much be drama on the part of a hormonal teenager mixed with manipulation from an outside adult, and I would lean towards that. However- I got a little defensive towards this girl because of your second point which is the adult should have known better. It’s precisely because she may be over dramatizing that she was in a state to be easily manipulated. Regardless of her state of mind- it’s the adult here who bears the responsibility, imo. Everything for a teenager (of either gender) can be the end of the world. It’s not an open invitation for adults to convince them to flee across 4 states.
