I see the Air France 447 debris field and black (orange) box signal has been detected.

Bodes well for recovery the box, it survived well enough the pinger is working and it should continue for 30 days. Just need to get a sub on site.

Historically it’s very rare for a plane to suffer catastrophic inflight airframe failure. The de Havilland Comet in the late 50’s being a notable example.
