One thing to remember: the depletion of the oil from Prudhoe Bay means declining revenue for the state of Alaska. The state will need to raise taxes, and evidently Sarah didn’t want to be the one to do that. This is one of the working theories on why she decided to bail now.

If that is true, then it was probably a good idea for her to bail. For her to culture her pristine image as a True conservative she can’t be seen as having raised taxes.
