Of all things, I fail to see how this would make God an asshole. How would it have any impact on any entity whether the universe was actually X years old or God created an X-6000 year old universe 6000 years ago?

Because God would be deceiving us and teaching us not to trust the eyes and ears and reasoning that he gave us…
