My grandfather’s grandfather died at Antietam fighting for the Confederacy. Didn’t know him or what was in his heart, but I am from poor non-slave owning stock.

Both sides of my family moved to West Virginia to mine coal, because that is the only thing they knew. Working their asses off to feed their families today.

I wish I knew more about it. The records are pretty thin from back then.
