I went home and told Zedushka about this, and he replied from Ethics of the Fathers: “In a place where there are no men, you must strive to be the man.”

Somehow, that struck me as so wrong; I just couldn’t wrap my head around it.

As a woman, I’m a total failure as a man, and believe me, raising 2 kids by myself after a divorce at a young age required me to try being a father, mother and breadwinner to them (all roles their father relinquished). Never wanted to be a man; just wanted my full rights as a female human being, something women are still striving to attain.
